Julia
My family lives on a 3 acre property in Middleburg and we are very interested in having a backyard hive. We are new to the beekeeping world, so we were interested in having someone possibly come out and assist with setting up the hive.
Donna and Mike Kropotkin
Hi Julia. Welcome to the forum. Are you prepared to handle everything that comes AFTER the hives are set up (installation of bees, weekly inspections, feeding, checking and treating for varroa mites, etc. etc.) after the hive is set up? Or do you need full education and/or mentoring?
Julia
Hi, thanks for the response. We would like full education/mentoring as well. Thank you!
Donna and Mike Kropotkin
I highly recommend that you enroll in the bee class as shown on the home page www.loudounbee.org next winter before embarking on this journey. Meanwhile, there's a lot of reading you can do and videos you can view on YouTube to help get you oriented. Beekeeping is not a trivial endeavor and while we all learn as we go, it's imperative to have a good basic understanding before getting started. 1
